Truly a product of North San Diego County, Matt was born in Vista in 1948 and moved to Carlsbad in 1970. He served in the Army from 1968 to 1970, and completed a tour in Vietnam. For his service to our country, Matt was awarded a Purple Heart.

In 1970, Matt started a business in Carlsbad Village. Matt has always worked to improve the charm of our downtown area. In fact, Matt served on the original redevelopment committee and has been a member of the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce for over 38 years. Matt knows that our continuing prosperity depends on preserving the beauty of our natural environment while advancing sensible policies that promote job creation and business formation.
